Downey Sr. piece on Hammer To Nail
I got a chance to check out four of Robert Downey Sr's rarely seen films from the 60s and 70s last week at Anthology Film Archives. Best known as Ironman's father and the director of the legendary ad agency satirePutney Swope, the retrospective of his work includes newly restored prints of several of his shorts, 1964's Babo 73', 1966's Chafed Elbows, 1968's No More Excuses, as well as his 1975 feature Moment to Moment. Here's a piece I wrote for Hammer to Nail on these gems of the old New York underground. Do yourself a favor - they run thru this Thursday. The man himself is going to appear at Thursday's screenings.
